True story:

I was sitting outside in front of the building where I attend school. It was getting dark. I was enjoying myself listening to my iPod.

A young man came by and asked me “Are you a part of the Christian faith?” I looked up at his face. I wasn’t sure exactly what he said because who asks that question anymore? He didn’t look menacing at all and something told me to say,”Yes, I am.” I flashed my bracelet; a cross shone in the dark.

He brought his face closer to observe it. Said something of approval and then showed me his necklace of the crucifix (so this sir was Catholic).

Then he told me he was selling bracelets. They were around the strap of his bag. I looked at them as he talked. They were charm bracelets—images of the virgin Mary. He said they were three dollars each. Shrugging, I smiled and said I had no money (I really didn’t).

He looked at me. After a pause, he declared, “You’re so cute.”
He said more, but it didn’t register because I watched him take my hand in his and lower his head to kiss it. I was so shocked I delayed my “God bless you, too!” when he said his ”God bless” and walked away.
